Homemade Chicken Broth

Making chicken broth is super easy and delicious specially wen you make it at home, all you need is chicken bones simple vegies that you will have in your fridge and herbs. At the end of it you will have 5 cups of amazing chicken broth 10x better than any store bought stuff. Freeze it and save it for later soups, braises, stews or even casseroles.

The more you simmer, the richer the flavor gets. Once you taste how delicious homemade broth is you will never want to go back to store bought.

Ingredients Notes

1.Cold water- Always start with cold water. This helps the broth stay clear and not cloudy. Remember the longer you simmer the broth the richer it will become

2.Roasting Bones- The reason we roast the bone it to enhace the flavor or the broth but also gives it a really good golden brown color that makes it more appealing

3.Vegetables- Feel free to add any vegetables that you have in your fridge that will increase flavor of the broth, Specially if you add mushrooms

Homemade Chicken Broth

Equipment

  • 1 large pot
  • 1 strainer
  • 1 knife
  • 1 cutting board

Ingredients
  

  • 5 lbs raw chicken bones (you can sub with roasted chicken bone)
  • 2 large yellow onion
  • 1 whole Garlic bulb
  • 1 oz fresh thyme
  • 2 large Carrots
  • 3 stocks Celery
  • 14 cups water
  • 1 tspn salt

Instructions
 

  • Start by pre heating oven to 425 f
  • Place chicken bones in to a oven safe pan or tray
  • Roast you chicken bone for 25 min until golden brown
  • While your bones are roasting you will start to slice your vegetables Onion, carrots, celery and garlic (rough chop will be great)
  • Place all vegetables plus your fresh thyme in to a big pot
  • Next add your roasted chicken bones and water to the pot make sure bones are covered in the water
  • Bring pot to a boil for 5 min then lower heat to low and simmer for 2 1/2 hour.
  • after 2 1/2 hour the broth should be reduced by half and you will now strain the broth and season with salt
  • Allow for broth to cool down and place in to a container and place in fridge or freezer for later use
