What is Horchata?

It is a very popular Mexican drink and its made of rice, water, milk and cinnamon. There a perfect balance of creamy rice to cinnamon flavor that make you keep on coming back for more. There also other variation from Spain(horchata de chufa) , Peru that are slightly different.

Easy Mexican Horchata recipe

Authentic Creamy Horchata recipe

Equipment

  • 1 bowl
  • 1 strainer
  • 1 blender

Ingredients
  

  • 4 cups water
  • 1 cup jasmine rice
  • 2 sticks cinnamon
  • 14 oz. condense milk (1 can)
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 tbsp. vanilla extract

Instructions
 

  • First soak your rice and cinnamon stick in water overnight in the fridge. That will soften the grain and be easier to blend.
  • After the over night soaking place rice, water, cinnamon in a blender and add the condense mil, vanilla extract and milk and blend for 3 min or until fully blended
  • You want to blend as much as possible to get major flavor
  • Strain the horchata 2x thru a fine strainer to get rid of any bits and pieces and have a smooth liquid
  • Serve it in a cup with a lot of ice and enjoy
